Creative & Modern Dance

Dancing Dialogue - A center for movement, music and dance-based arts supporting healing and self-expression.  Enhance your child’s natural curiosity and creativity, self-awareness, confidence, independence, positive self-image & body-image, stimulate the love of learning and discovery, physical, mental, emotional, social growth. Based on the latest infant and child development research classes support your child’s growing body and brain, diverse learning styles, build respect and community through sharing and friendship, and provide activities for you to do at home.

Suzi Tortora's Dancing Dialogue classes offer fun ways to dance and play with your baby and toddler to support your child's growth and your parenting. Our new newborn Mom and Dad dance share classes to support this new transition. Creative & Modern Dance classes are developmentally specific to toddlers. 

Available Creative & Modern Dance Wellness Courses

  • 2–8 years

    Enhance and preserve the natural dancer in your child, building confidence and self-awareness, as your child explores expressive dance styles and is introduced to the basics of creative and modern dance including: rhythm, musical awareness, developing body coordination and advancing motor skills.

  • 2–4 years with Adult

    For the active child who loves high energy.

    Including specially designed obstacle course equipment! Enhance and preserve the natural dancer in your child! This class builds confidence and self-awareness, develops body coordination, boosts brain power and advances motor skills as your child explores expressive dance styles and is introduced to the basics of creative and modern dance including: rhythm, musical awareness, and group cooperation.

  • 2–4 years with Adult

    For the younger or gentle child who thrives in a smaller class.

    Including specially designed obstacle course equipment! Enhance and preserve the natural dancer in your child! This class builds confidence and self-awareness, develops body coordination, boosts brain power and advances motor skills as your child explores expressive dance styles and is introduced to the basics of creative and modern dance including: rhythm, musical awareness, and group cooperation.

  • Child with Dad

  • 3–4 years

    The next step in dance skill and body awareness, this class supports the child's transition to independence and provides school readiness through dance & movement-based explorations. Activities include listening to and interpreting stories to create dancing choreographic sequences followed by drawing, writing and dancing their own stories. Story themes focus on pre-reading skills and emotional/social expression using dance and movement to explore concepts such as adverbs, opposites and prepositions (e.g. up/down, over/under, slow/medium/fast); creating shapes and pathways in space that relate to letters and numbers; and developing pro-group social skills such as turn taking, moving as a whole cohesive group, and different partnering combos such as dyads, triads, etc. These explorations will all occur within the context of creative dance explorations that support the child's continued enjoyment of the power of dance as a tool for self-expression.

  • 4–5 years

    The next step in dance skill and body awareness, this class supports the child's transition to independence, and provides school readiness through dance & movement-based explorations. Activities include listening to and interpreting stories to create dancing choreographic sequences followed by drawing, writing and dancing their own stories.   • Kindergarten – 1st grade

    This class builds upon the popular Dancing Stories! A-B-C taking the dancing children to the next step of dance skill and body awareness this year focusing on Musical Listening through classical music. For the new kindergartener and first grader this class supports the child who is eager to explore self-expression and supports school preparedness through dance & movement-based explorations.

    Activities include listening to and interpreting music and stories to create dancing choreographic sequences followed by drawing, writing and dancing their own stories. Story themes focus on reading skills and emotional/social expression using dance and movement to explore concepts including creating shapes and pathways in space that relate to letters and numbers; and developing pro-group social skills such as turn taking, moving as a whole cohesive group, and different partnering combos such as dyads, triads, etc. These explorations will all occur within the context of creative dance explorations that support the child's continued enjoyment of the power of dance as a tool for self-expression.

  • 2nd grade & up

    This class builds up Level 1 developing more modern dance techniques and choreography, creating personal and group dance stories through explorations using all of the arts. In addition to classical music interpretation, this class will work with modern music and also learn the language of dance by working with the Laban Notation Motif System used to describe dance's dynamics and feeling tones.
